WARNING: Pregnancy Brain = Memory Bank Robber

For a really funny blog on pregnancy brain afflicting another innocent couple: http://chadthomasjohnston.com/2011/04/a-pregnancy-story-dolt-whizknee-retitles-the-lion-king/

I've always been kind of "forgetful."  I blame it on this incredibly artsy, musician-brain of mine.  It's a fair trade off, right?  I also have a tendency to process my thoughts out loud (unless it's gut-wrenching real emotion and then I'm mute!).  Thankfully, I now have a very good excuse...pregnancy brain.  Pregnancy brain has affected two areas in particular.

1. Spelling

My bible study was gathered at our house engaged in small talk before we began our study for the night.  One guy shared an interesting family fact.  All of his siblings and his father had names that started with the letter "J," except for his mother who was a Patty.  Naturally, what I was thinking processed right outside of my head and I suddenly blurted out in between laughter, "Hahaha.  No, because Mom starts with a J!!!"  Just as quickly as I said it, I was mortified at the illogical and incorrect assumption I had come up with.  My friends rolled their eyes and said, "This [my pregnancy] is going to be fun."

2. Geography

Jt has two work trips scheduled for Vermont and Vancouver.  For whatever reason, the fact both places start with a "V" is extremely confusing for me.  Today, I tried to nail down his travel plans.

"So you are headed to New Hampshire, then Canada, right?" I asked.

"What?  Who said New Hampshire?" he said.

"Well, you are going to Vermont.  That's in New Hampshire."

"No, it's not!" Jt laughed in disbelief.  "It's a state!!"

"Seriously?  Oh. Well, what's the capital of New Hampshire then?" I distinctly remembered memorizing those two states closely together in elementary school.

To which husband smiles and says, "Alright, homeskool.  We are NOT homeschooling our kids."

--------------

I do think Jt has some sympathy pregnancy symptoms as well.  (It's my turn to tell on him.)

He has been sick, tired, and generally just blah every time I have felt those same things.  Funny how that works because I know the reason for my feeling blah is that I'm growing a child in my uterus and I know that he doesn't have one of those. ;)

He had a "pregnancy brain" moment too!  I recently hopped on the scale to see if I had gained any weight in this first trimester.  I'm okay saying that I've stayed around 130 lbs. since we wed, so naturally I was pretty happy the scale said 132.  I ran into our room and excitedly told Jt, "Babe, I'm 132!"

Now, bless my husband's heart because his words are most always like fine perfume to my soul.  He'll look at me out of nowhere and just say, "Darlin', you are so beautiful."  Too bad words aren't my primary love language because he is so kind and generous with them!

Jt must have been searching for the "right" answer with this one.  "Wow, sweetie, that's a lot more than you used to weigh, huh?"

"Um, no!  My point was that I haven't really gained weight which means this bump on my belly is a baby, and I'm not just fat."  I couldn't help but laugh at his horrible mistake!

  1. I had a funny, yet somewhat embarrassing (and gross) pregnancy moment today too, Abi, and I thought you would get a kick out of. ;0) My spring allergies were really bothering me tonight, and at one point I sneezed so hard that I actually peed a little bit and felt it running down my leg. I was completely shocked and totally grossed out, but then just started laughing. I had heard of some pregnant women having difficulty with bladder control towards the end of pregnancy and after giving birth. I was just shocked that at only 19 weeks along, I was already having this difficulty. Ah the joys of pending motherhood eh? ;0)
