Facing the Red Sea of Impossibility
Exodus 14 Life is unpredictable, however, we should never be surprised or blindsided when things get hard. I don't know if the Lord is simply teaching me more as I'm getting older or if it's just been a long season of hard lessons, and perhaps we'll get a rest from the storms for a season after this one. Regardless, I'm thankful that no matter my circumstance, HE is my rest. He is my rest that I can have daily! Oh, how sweet the aroma of Heaven is on especially hard days. Home is so near, and yet so far, yet again so near! My hubby and I have found ourselves in the strangest dichotomy. We are in a season of blessing and need all at the same time. I most relate to the children of Israel in Exodus 14. God delivers the Israelites from Pharaoh's oppressive hand. He sets them free from the bonds of slavery and they joyfully head for the Promised Land. Just as they near the Red Sea, they see Pharaoh and his men in hot pursuit of them. Pharaoh had changed his mind and was going to re-claim "his property." Now imagine what the children of Israel were feeling at this point? Confused? Abandoned? Hopeful? Doubtful? They were at a crossroads, literally. Their past is hunting them down quickly while they see the hope of their future, but they have no means to cross this vast body of water. This is where God shows off His magnificent display of power and glory. He brings them to this place where they can not help themselves and He does what only God can do. He parts the Red Sea. Imagine parting the waters in your bathtub. Probably not going to happen. Now imagine it on such a huge scale as the Red Sea! God delivers them and also wipes away the Egyptians in one fell swoop. I feel like God has very much brought us to the same place. He has set us on a particular path to set us free, one that feels dry and dusty lots of times. The desert path had gotten so dry and our souls had grown weary when He brought us to the end of ourselves and our resources. We could clearly see our reflections in the waters of our own Red Sea of Impossibility. Deliverance and daily sustenance could only come from a powerful, loving God for we were completely empty. We were being pressed on all sides, much like the children of Israel, and faced with, "how in the world are we going to get to the other side?" when He lovingly reminded us that HE is our Deliverer, our Resource for all things, and our so very faithful Father. We have not crossed that Red Sea yet, but we are seeking Him, praying with gratitude, and waiting on God to show off His glory in stunning ways. And He will do it. He is faithful.... to the End. |
