Shaving my Legs and American Idol
I have five topics for tonight's post:
1. Shaving my legs = exercise
2. Social Security Office meets O'Reilly meets Jerry Springer
3. American Idol - who you should be cheering
4. Tonight's recipe for dinner :)
5. what God is teaching me
1. Shaving my legs = exercise
*this is not me
Justin and I have been celebrating our nuptials for a good 2+ years now...basically eating like kings and queens since we started dating. Ten pounds later, it's time to eat like a healthy little pauper and begin dedicating myself to exercise. Did you read exercise because I saw CHORE in big bold letters? I have to get some motivation in my soul to get me to the gym that is literally downstairs...if we lived in a house, it would be at the other end of the house. It's so darn close. The idea of a reward system was instantly appealing, but having learned to live without for such a long time, I would simply adjust and be content without having a reward. However, a punishment is extremely motivating. I shave my legs EVERY SINGLE DAY. Not even running late will keep me from this routine. It has been as important to me as brushing my teeth. (I set my personal beauty standards higher than others.) Smooth legs = feeling beautiful and confident. So what if I was only allowed to shave my legs on the mornings I worked out??? The idea makes me cringe and sparks notions of sleeping in gym clothes and running to the gym before the sun wakes to ensure my legs will be smooth. I think this just might work. (It also helps that I downloaded lots of preaching podcasts and old time radio murder mystery stories onto my new iPhone for entertainment.)
2. Social Security Office meets O'Reilly meets Jerry Springer
This might be best saved for a new song or another post altogether! A very loud debate on the Bible and church and good women and the separation of church and state took over this government office and I just wanted to sing my way out of the tension.
3. American Idol - who you should be cheering
MATTHEW NUSS
So who is he? Well, if you all recall, I contributed 3 songs to a charity album entitled Song for Food. A NASA employee had a passion for music and helping people, so he funded the album. All of the proceeds go to food banks across the US and Matt's song, "Hold On" (song number 10), is nothing short of amazing and has been my favorite of the album. He looks like a Backstreet Boy and sounds like Boys 2 Men with a heart for God and could EASILY win this whole competition. Pray that Jesus would shine in his interactions with the production staff, the judges, and the other singers. Look for him and root him on!
4. Tonight's recipe for dinner :)
Beef Tamale Pie
My husband bought a label maker. If you knew how I DESPISE stickers, then you'd know this is the ultimate betrayal. Anywho, I came home from work to this sweet love label!
I topped this delicious beef tamale pie with plain yogurt that happens to look like a heart - oops! - and avocado.
Here is the recipe (give or take a few ingredients):

5. What God is teaching me
HUMILITY
I'm simultaneously reading Exodus and Job. Actually this whole lesson began with a Mark Driscoll podcast entitled It's All About Jesus and it really revealed to me the pride in my life that disguises itself in other ways like doubt/fear/control issues etc. Anywho, then I'm reading about Pharaoh, a man who's heart was hardened with pride and comparing that to the story of Job, a humble man of God who's heart was softened. My favorite part of the Bible is when God lays the smack down at the end of Job showing off His power and His might. Salvation is a gift of the Spirit because it is our nature to be prideful and not to submit to anyone else. Only the Holy Spirit can humble our hearts and open our eyes to see that there is INDEED One far greater than ourselves. Only the Spirit can help us to see how weak we really are. We are not self-sufficient. Praise the Lord for His lovingkindness and patience with us. I'm just thrilled that He is working on me and through me and to see how He orchestrated my own Bible study this week is just awesome.
Now, I must ready my gym clothes so I can shave my legs tomorrow. ;)
