Disciplines

Discipline.

Right away, do you feel something in your heart ball up and hide...like a roly poly bug when you try to touch it? I sit here at 10am successfully putting off the discipline of exercise. I see it as such a CHORE - a necessary one, but one in which I have no fun. :( I have a LOT of work to do in that area, especially since in my core being, I know that exercise can be worship to the Lord with the body He has given me. Enough of that tangent.

For years, I aced the discipline of reading my Bible daily no matter if I was walking with Him or running away, I always read His Word. I see now that part of my relationship with the Lord in this area was simply to earn His favor - performance based. I wanted Him to love me and I was going to earn it, however subconscious this was. I now understand the freedom I have in Christ and that I can never earn His love because I already have it. Last year, I set myself free from the "have to" in exchange for reading because I "wanted to." I missed the accountability and am starting over this year because I genuinely "want to." I found a great plan that basically schedules one day off a week for catch up so I figure I have 52 chances to "miss" and it will adjust your plan to "catch you up." Just because we don't feel like doing something does NOT mean that we shouldn't do it. I don't feel like doing dishes or laundry, but it has to be done. It's all about an attitude and heart adjustment. So I encourage you to check out this plan. If you think about all the time you spend on facebook or watching tv, the 20-30 minutes it would take you to read through the Bible in a year is not asking much and because His Word does not return void, it WILL BE profitable.

These days I'm trying to educate myself on basic nutrition and eating plans so I can start healthy habits in our family now pre-children. My older sister gave me this wonderful resource and Justin and I are going to try out their healthy eating plan. I love that every food group is represented. You are free to eat carbs, proteins, veggies, fruits, and even CHOCOLATE! It's kind of like an eating plan that utilizes all the best "superfoods" so that you get the maximum amount of nutrients. I love that it's not a diet and the meals look simple to make and shop for! Most of all, I look forward to feeling GOOD after I eat.

(For example, instead of eating your salads with iceburg lettuce, you'd substitute with spinach because the VITAMINS are packed in there!)

Happy reading and healthy eating! Now to work out...even if it is a dance video game. ;)
